How AKC championship points work

At an AKC conformation show, the judge picks a Winners Dog and a Winners Bitch from the regular classes. Those two dogs earn championship points based on how many dogs of their sex they competed against. The number of dogs needed for each point is set by the AKC point schedule, which is different for each breed, each sex and each part of the country, and is updated every year.

A dog can win from 0 to 5 points at a show. A win of 3, 4 or 5 points is called a major. To become an AKC Champion, a dog needs 15 points including 2 majors from 2 different judges. Grand Champions need 25 grand championship points with 3 majors from 3 different judges, and must defeat another champion at 3 shows. Our championship points calculator does the counting for you, and the progress tracker shows how close your dog is to finishing.

Is AKCcalc.com part of the American Kennel Club?

No. AKCcalc.com is an independent site and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the American Kennel Club. The calculators follow the published AKC counting rules, but your official AKC records always have the final word.
