How Puppy of Achievement points work

The AKC Puppy of Achievement program rewards young puppies for their show ring wins. A puppy needs 10 points for the certificate. Points come from Beginner Puppy competition (for puppies 4 to 6 months old) and from first place in the regular 6-9 month, 9-12 month and Bred-by-Exhibitor Puppy classes.

In Beginner Puppy, Best of Breed counts every puppy of the breed and Best of Opposite Sex counts the puppies of its own sex. A Group first receives the highest points awarded to any breed in its Group, and Best in Show receives the highest points of any breed it defeated. Points stop once the puppy turns 12 months old or is published as a champion.
