How MACH points work
MACH points are speed points. Every qualifying run in Master Standard or Master Jumpers With Weaves earns 1 point for each full second the dog finishes under the standard course time. Parts of a second are dropped, so 15.12 seconds under time is 15 points. Placements do not change the points: the old bonus for first and second place ended in 2011.
A Master Agility Champion (MACH) needs 750 MACH points and 20 Double Qualifying scores. A Double Q means the dog qualified in both Master Standard and Master Jumpers With Weaves on the same day. Each additional 750 points and 20 Double Qs adds a number: MACH2, MACH3 and so on. The Preferred Agility Champion (PACH) works the same way in the Preferred classes.
Example
The standard course time is 64 seconds and your dog runs clean in 48.88 seconds. That is 15.12 seconds under time, so the run earns 15 MACH points. If your dog also qualified in Jumpers With Weaves that day, it counts as one Double Q.
Common questions
How are MACH points calculated?
A qualifying run in Master Standard or Master Jumpers With Weaves earns 1 point for every full second the dog runs under the standard course time. Parts of a second do not count.
Does first place earn extra MACH points?
No. The AKC removed the first and second place multipliers in 2011, so a qualifying run earns the same speed points whatever its placement.
What does a dog need for a MACH title?
750 MACH points and 20 Double Qualifying scores. A Double Q is a qualifying run in both Master Standard and Master Jumpers With Weaves on the same day.
Is PACH counted the same way?
PACH, the Preferred Agility Champion title, also needs 750 points and 20 Double Qs, earned in the Preferred Master classes.
